Understanding Your Free Plan

The TraderNest Free plan lets you start journaling your trades immediately without entering any payment information. It is designed to give you a genuine feel for the platform so you can decide whether the paid features are worth the investment. Here is a detailed breakdown of what is included and what requires an upgrade.

What is Included on Free

  • CSV import — Upload your trade history from any supported exchange using CSV files. This includes Kraken and Deribit, which are CSV-only exchanges, as well as any other exchange where you have exported a CSV file.
  • 1 exchange account — You can connect one exchange account to track your trades.
  • Basic dashboard — Four core widgets give you an overview of your performance: Cumulative P&L, P&L by Hour, Trade Exit Outcomes, and the Trading Calendar.
  • 3 months of trade history — View and analyze your trades from the last three months. Older trades are not displayed but are not deleted — they become accessible if you upgrade.
  • Pattern detection (totals only) — AI Hawk still analyzes your trades for behavioral patterns. You can see the names of detected patterns and their total estimated cost, but the detailed breakdown is blurred.
  • Demo account — A preloaded account with approximately 500 sample trades so you can explore the full interface immediately.

What Requires an Upgrade

The following features are visible in the app but require a Starter or Advanced plan to access:

  • API auto-sync — Automatic trade syncing from your exchange via API requires Starter or higher. On Free, you can only import trades manually via CSV.
  • Strategies and rules — Creating trading strategies with defined rules is a Starter+ feature. Free users cannot create strategies.
  • AI Hawk Chat — Interactive AI coaching conversations require Starter (30 credits/month) or Advanced (unlimited).
  • Academy — The trading psychology courses and exercises require a Starter or Advanced plan.
  • Insights pages — The five deep-dive analytics pages (Time, R:R, Duration, Pair, Fee analysis) are locked on Free.
  • Reports — Weekly and monthly performance reports require a paid plan.
  • Trade export — Exporting your trade data to CSV requires Starter or higher.
  • Community — Joining or creating communities requires a paid plan.

How Blurred Features Work

On the Free plan, locked features are not completely hidden. Instead, TraderNest shows you a preview of what the feature looks like with your actual data, but the details are blurred or obscured. This is intentional — it lets you see that the analysis exists and understand its potential value before deciding to upgrade.

For example, the pattern detection page on Free might show you:

  • "Revenge Trading" — 12 occurrences — Total cost: $2,340 — [Details blurred]
  • "Overtrading" — 8 occurrences — Total cost: slug: "understanding-free-plan", title: "Understanding Your Free Plan", description: "What's included in the Free plan and what features require an upgrade.", categorySlug: "getting-started", content: ,150 — [Details blurred]

You can see that these patterns exist and how much they are costing you in total, but the specific trades, timestamps, and actionable recommendations are only available with an upgrade.

Tip: Every blurred or locked feature includes a brief description of what it does along with an upgrade button. Click the upgrade button on any locked feature, and you will be taken directly to the billing page.

How to Upgrade

When you are ready to unlock more features, there are two easy ways to upgrade:

  1. Settings > Billing — Go to your Settings page, click on Billing, and choose the plan that fits your needs.
  2. Any upgrade button — Click the upgrade button that appears next to any locked feature, and you will be taken directly to the plan selection page.

Upgrading is instant. As soon as your payment is confirmed, all features in your new plan are unlocked and your trades begin syncing automatically if you have connected an exchange API.
